ISV Yellowpages continues to grow!

A while back I talked about how the Software & Partner Directory (or ISV Yellowpages, if you will) are growing with more and more listings of software companies and their products that are optimized for Intel platforms. You may have noticed recently that http://bx.intel.com , the Intel Business Exchange Solutions & Services Store has a new look and feel and that’s because those solutions have now transitioned to the Software & Partner Directory ( http://ibx.intel.com/directory/ ), and in many cases the Intel Business Exchange Software Store ( http://sx.intel.com )

ISV Yellowpages of Intel

If you’re looking for the all-inclusive database for Intel hardware products, you look no further than http://ark.intel.com and can find whatever you need ranging from processors to chipsets to motherboards and beyond. But what about software companies and software products that are built to work on Intel hardware, where do you find that? That’s when you look for the Software & Partner Directory at http://ibx.intel.com/directory where you can search by category, highest rated and most viewed. Consider it a yellowpages of sorts, where  it already lists over 1800 applications (and we’re working on building it out even further!) Don’t see your software listed

When you vacation, do you remain connected?

As summer vacation time winds down in the US, I’m wondering just how many people worked to stay connected while they vacation compared to those who left the connected world behind.   The trends seems to be we are more likely to remain connected than ever before! Last year I spent nearly 6 weeks vacationing in Europe where nearly all the time I had a wonderful cell and data connection.   I was astonished to see that even in Estonia hours from the city hiking in a wilderness area I had 5 bars and sent and received text messages from the US.

Visit Intel SW product marketing folks at SIGGRAPH

Hey, if you are going to be at SIGGRAPH in New Orleans next week, stop by the Intel booth and check out the TBB  ( http://www.threadingbuildingblocks.org ) demo station, where John McHugh and I will be demo-ing TBB in use by some of our key visual computing customers and I’ll be (hmm, discreetly) showing a neat Flash demo of our soon-to-be-beta data parallelization product along with a couple of early demos of it’s usefulness. Hope to see you there!

Part 2 – Birds do it. Movie Stars do it. Cable News Broadcasters do it. But do Software Developers do it? Twitter.

Thanks to those that provided their input on how Software Developers are using Twitter. Interesting enough, Time magazine did a major article on Twitter in their June 15th edition. One of the major premises put forward in this article is that Twitter is changing the rules of engagement.

Can infrastructure enable healthcare interoperability?

Last April at HIMSS in Chicago, Intel participated in the IHE showcase , which is essentially a huge “plug fest” for healthcare vendors promoting interoperability in healthcare. Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. The IHE process delivers a set of interoperability “profiles”, which are comprised of established standards to address specific clinical use cases.

Mapmaker, Mapmaker, Make Me a Map

For science geeks, the United State Geological Survey ( USGS ) is a beloved and respected organization providing a source of thorough scientific research which delves into the subjects of geology, biology, geography, and water, among others. An important and lasting project of the USGS has been their work with topographical and interactive maps. Second Intel AMT SDK Web Based Training Now Available

The Intel AMT SDK team is proud to announce its second Web-based Training (WBT), on developing applications for Intel AMT.   This e-course is focused on developing applications to communicate with Intel AMT using the WS-Management protocol. The course provide an overview of the steps involved in the message flow to/from Intel AMT over WS-Management.  The course also provides a detailed walkthrough for using the SDK for developing an application from scratch to implement a couple of easy flows (“hello world” programs).

Applying SOA to improve US Medicaid and Medicare

Whew, it has been a while since I wrote my last blog.  New initiatives for the new year have been keeping me fully consumed.  However, one of these new initiatives has reached a point where it was time to get it written up on my blog. The cost of Medicaid and Medicare has been written about often as government budgets are re-evaluated and the new administration takes root.  With econonmic times being what they are the number of beneficiaries are increasing in an already overburdened system of service to US state and local communities. In response to concerns over rising costs, complex processes and fragile systems the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) developed the MITA Framework .  MITA stands for Medicaid Information Technology Architecture.  It is an integrated business, data, application and technology architecture built on SOA principles and best practices.  MITA is a strategy and a blueprint for establishing integrated business and IT transformations in State medicaid programs to tackle the issue of rising costs, complex business processes and fragile systems.  A key challenge when implementing any kind of enterprise transformation and associated SOA project is how to crawl, walk and the run in the rollout of the implementation.  The MITA framework proposes a multi-stage maturity model and many states are assessing how to progress through the stages of maturity

What next for XML Services?

For my first post here I thought best to start with some background and a bit of future gazing to help explain who I am (largely a data-orientated XML geek) and what interests me. My personal involvement with XML processing goes back just about 10 years now, it’s been a great personal adventure, from utter confusion, to enlightenment and then overuse abuse before coming back to enabling the services revolution. There is no doubt I am biased here, but when I hear people characterize XML as just “angle brackets” (or compare JSON with XML for that matter), I know they missed the point.

Job board / Twitter.com integration

Since all the publicity started a few months back with twitter.com , we have been looking at ways to integrate our xpandedMedia.com job board software with the social networking micro blog platform by looking at ways to capitalize on the platform to extend the reach and marketing capabilities of our software. After some research and development our team are pleased to announce that the job posting process now integrates with twitter to send real time status updates to a pre-defined twitter account when ever new jobs are posted to the board, in a short, specific summary

Standardizing Software Services

I recently participated in a webinar with Ken Rubin from HP (formerly EDS) who is the Chief Architect for their Healthcare practice.  The webinar was sponsored by the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) .  You can access it on demand by registering here . The topic was about the need to standardize, and the benefits of standardizing, software services.  There are many IT standards in healthcare and other industries around document structures, data payloads and information sematics.  Yet, there has been marginal progress on standardizing the functional behaviors or architectures which are needed to create, manage and manipulate that data

Governing Services … What does it take?

Service governance is a topic I find myself engaged in often now.  The discussions take many forms such as:  “What is governance?”, “How do I apply it to my service architecture”?, “What vendors are relevant?”, “What standards are relevant?”, “What features and capabilites matter most in practical deployments?” I think this is an important topic given the state of service architectures and associated deployments.  Most organizations have many services in their environment and/or product architectures.  The number of applications and associated infrastructure which deploy software services as functional building blocks and / or APIs is increasing all the time.  Also, with the rise of cloud computing and SaaS, the vision of services being sourced from anywhere is an established practical reality. So, when I think of governing services I am considering three main questions: What are the policies that I need to define and enforce

Enabling hospitals and their affiliated physicians to stay connected

Hospitals and IDNs are increasingly looking for new ways to stay connected with their affiliated physicians to enable sharing of health information, streamline the referrals process, and provide seamless access to hospital, lab, PBMs and payer networks. Both hospitals and their affiliated physicians really get excited about the idea of having a consolidated view of patient information and a more integrated workflow, as it is an enabler for increased efficiency, reduced errors and improved outcomes. First, it creates an integrated network for the sharing of patient information which is scattered across a diverse set of systems in different domains
