NJ Law- NJ Bloggers Are Not Protected by Journalist’s Shield

As a blogger, both personally and professionally, I was astounded when I read news reports that NJ state Superior Courts have ruled that bloggers, as they are not journalists, are not protected by New Jersey’s Journalist Shield Law. This means that the sources bloggers use in writing their articles are not classified as privileged information the way they would be for a news reporter. Shellee Hale was sued by Too Much Media, LLC for defamation, slander, false light, invasion of privacy and trade libel for a post she wrote on Oprano.com referring to a security breach in one of TMM’s software products.
