PM Tools I Use: Sticky Notes

I recently asked for some  feedback from you not only to make use of a copy of Confessions of a Public Speaker (if you haven’t read it yet then go, do it now). I wanted you to get involved a bit in choosing what I’m writing about here on Software Project Management. The first thing I’ve drawn from the pool of ideas you submitted is project management tools I use.

Sifting for Gold in a River of Gold-plate

Most investigations begin with a suspicion.  Someone suspects that something has occurred on a computer and wants to determine what it is or what significance it has.  Sooner or later, the computer ends up in our laboratory for examination.  Whether it’s “sooner” or “later” may have a dramatic impact on the complexity and corresponding cost of the investigation. Suppose, for example, that you suspect that an employee may be stealing company secrets – intending to work for a competitor.  You make a mental list of competitors that might be interested in your intellectual property and set to work to confirm your suspicions. You search through the internet history visible from within Internet Explorer during the evenings, after they have left work.  When you don’t recognize a site, you visit to determine what it is.

feature: The format wars: of lasers and (creative) destruction

I have this love/hate relationship with format wars. No, it’s not reality television versus talk shows, or Top 40 radio against “the best of the ’80s—and more!” The wars I’m thinking about pit technologies against one another, usually in a battle to the death of one or more of the contestants. It’s One format to rule them all every time, and the streets are littered with the remains of the losers.

XFX’s Radeon HD 5770, A Look At The 5770 Revision 2 Cooler

From our Radeon HD 5770 Review : Interestingly enough, we’ve been told that the Phoenix shroud isn’t going to be sticking around for long. The first wave of cards launching today and for the near future will be using the shroud, but once AMD’s vendors begin using their own designs, AMD doesn’t expect most of the vendors to stick with the shroud. XFX has specifically been named as a party that will keep using the shroud on products, but anyone else is subject to change

Buzz on 802.11n in the Next iPhone

Gizmodo spurs sudden buzz about 802.11n in the next iPhone: Gizmodo spots a job listing from Apple for an iPhone engineer who needs 802.11a/b/g/n implementation knowledge, and leaps to the notion that the next model of the iPhone may include 802.11n. I haven’t written about this, despite what seem like thousands of posts at various blogs, because my reaction was twofold. First: Well, duh! Second: You don’t hire a handheld engineer today with 802.11 experience that doesn’t include 802.11n.

Printer News: Epson Stylus Pro 3880 Offers Two Black and Nine Color Inks for Professional Results Photographers and design professionals often find printing black-and-white photos a nightmare. david horvitz – monday, december 14

sarahcoke+ posted a photo: “look at this block of text until you become bored with it. when you become bored with it, instead of instinctively redirecting your attention on something slightly more stimulating, notice the slight agitation that has come and try to resist it. this is not to make you tolerable of things that are mundane, but to help build back your attention span that the internet has taken away from you.” here
