HTC Droid Eris comes with 5MP camera

Verizon is advertising heavily. The Droid Eris features some pretty impressive specifications, the handset runs Google’s Android OS, it also features a 5 megapixel camera, and a display resolution of 320×480 pixels, other specifications include built-in WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a microSD memory card slot. Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris are launching this November 6th on Verizon. The HTC Droid Eris was formally known as the HTC Desire and will become available on the Verizon network commanding a price tag of $99 based on a 2 year agreement

Microsoft selling crapware-free PCs in its stores

Not only is Microsoft reselling select Windows 7 PCs normally sold by its hardware partners, but the company is making sure they come only with the software it wants. Yes, that means that if you buy a PC from Microsoft, it won’t come with the usual “crapware,” though it won’t be a clean install either. Microsoft is still bundling its own software, including Windows Live Essentials and Microsoft Security Essentials, as well as Adobe software

Freescale merges ARM, E-Ink for next-gen e-book hardware

Freescale, the ailing semiconductor spinoff of Motorola, has announced a licensing deal with E-Ink to integrate controllers for electronic paper displays into its i.MX family of ARM-based system-on-chips (SoC). This new combination of ARM and E-Ink won’t immediately provide any dramatic benefits in terms of either battery life or functionality, but the move does lay the groundwork for a coming era when e-paper displays gain color capabilities and reduce their refresh time enough to support animation

Congress Declares Computer Science Week!

Computer science education reform is going to come in fits and starts working on issues from the top down (national media, federal policy, etc.) and the bottom up (in schools, districts, states, etc.). This week the “top down” piece got a nice boost from Congress by passing a resolution External Link designating the week of December 7 (in honor of Grace Hopper’s External Linkbirthday) as Computer Science Education Week . This gives the community a wonderful platform to highlight the importance of computing to society and why we need to strengthen CS education — particularly at the K-12 level
